BETTY COMDEN and ADOLPH GREEN (Authors and Lyricists)

the longest running creative partnership in theatre history, began writing and performing their own satirical comic material in a group called The Revuers, which included the late Judy Holliday.  They went on to collaborate with Leonard Bernstein and Jerome Robbins on what was the first show for all of them , On the Town, and were reunited with Mr. Bernstein to write the score for Wonderful Town.  With Jule Styne they wrote the book and/or lyrics for Bells are Ringing, Hallelujah, Baby!, Do Re Mi, Subways are for Sleeping, Peter Pan, and others; wrote the book for Applause; and book and lyrics for On the Twentieth Century and A Doll’s Life.  Four of these (Applause, Hallelujah, Baby!, Wonderful Town and On the Twentieth Century) won them five Tony Awards, and A Doll’s Life won a Tony nomination.  Their many film musicals include Singin’ in the Rain, The Band Wagon, On the Town, Bells are Ringing, It’s Always Fair Weather, Good News, and The Barkleys of Broadway.  Two of these, The Band Wagon and It’s Always Fair Weather, received Academy Award nominations, and those two plus On the Town won the Screen Writer’s Award.  Singin’ in the Rain was recently voted one of the best American films ever made and, by a vote of international film critics conducted by the prestigious magazine Sight and Sound, it was chosen as Number Three of the ten best films of all time.   As performers, they appeared in On the Town, and later did an evening at the Golden Theatre, A Party with Betty Comden and Adolph Green, comprised of material of their own shows and movies, and from their act, The Revuers.  In 1977 they did a new version of A Party to unanimous acclaim at the Morosco Theatre, and toured with it.  A Party received an Obie Award when it was first performed.  They are both members of the Council of the Dramatists’ Guild, have been elected to the Theatre Hall of Fame and the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame, and have received the Mayor of New York’s Certificate of Excellence.

JULE STYNE (Composer)

has made Broadway sing for 45 years with his High Button Shoes, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Two on the Aisle, Hazel Flagg, Peter Pan, Bells Are Ringing, Say Darling, Do Re Mi, Subways Are For Sleeping, Funny Girl, Fade Out-Fade In, Hallelujah, Baby!, Sugar and Lorelei, and of course, Gypsy, which is enjoying a revival on Broadway with Tyne Daly.  His many film scores include Anchors Aweigh and My Sister Eileen, as well as the title song “Three Coins in the Fountain”.  His songbook includes “I Don’t Want To Walk Without You”, “I Guess I’ll Have To Hang My Tears Out To Dry”, “I Fall In Love Too Easily” and “Time After Time”.  He has been a member of ASCAP for more than 50 years, the Songwriters’ and Theatre Hall of Fame, and serves on the Dramatists Guild Council.  He is the recipient of two Grammys, an Oscar, an Emmy, the Donaldson Award and the Drama Critics Award as producer.

PETER MATZ (Musical Director)

was orchestrator/conductor on Broadway for Noel Coward’s Sail Away and Richard Rodger’s No Strings; he created orchestrations for Jule Styne’s Hallelujah Baby and more recently Tommy Tune’s Grand Hotel; on records Matz has arranged, conducted and produced albums for Rosemary Clooney, Tony Bennett, Dionne Warwick, Melissa Manchester, Kiri te Kanawa, Nancy La Mott, Barbra Streisand and most recently he arranged Barbara Cook’s recordings of songs with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein.  On TV, Peter was arranger/conductor for Carol Burnett’s long-running series, and composed scores for more than 50 TV movies, as well as many feature films (Sidney Lumet’s Bye Bye Braverman is still Matz’s favorite).  Peter and his wife, actress/singer/psychotherapist Marilynn Lovell are active fund-raisers for APLA, Shanti Foundation, Aid for AIDS and other local AIDS organizations, as well as the GMHC in New York; the CD of their show “Say It With Music,” recorded live in New York, is available on the “Original Cast Records” label.

DON AMENDOLIA (Director)

An actor and director, Don most recently staged In Service for Seven Angels Theater in Connecticut and Master Class with Lucie Arnaz at Seacoast Repertory Theatre in New Hampshire.  He also directed the REPRISE! production of Wonderful Town, also starring Ms. Arnaz and Stephanie Zimbalist.  A member of the original New York company of Cloud 9, he went on to direct the piece for the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, the Cricket Theatre in Minneapolis and L.A. Stage Company, which earned him the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Direction.  He was in the Broadway and International tour of My One and Only and Stepping Out, which he also directed and starred in at Pasadena Playhouse, earning Drama-Logue awards for Direction and Performance.  Also at Pasadena, he directed The Big Day and Born Yesterday, starring Rebecca DeMornay.  He has guest starred on dozens of shows for television, and recent film roles have been in Ed Wood, Fearless, A Walk in the Clouds, and Boogie Nights.  Television directing credits include episodes of Harry and the Hendersons and Growing Pains.  He has been a guest artist with Houston Grand Opera where he also served as Director of Dramatic Studies.

KEVIN CARLISLE (Choreographer)

is a multi-award winning producer-director-choreographer, who was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Birmingham, Michigan.  He graduated from New York City’s Juilliard School of Music and recently received an honorary Doctorate from Sierra University in recognition of his lifelong commitment to the betterment of humanity.  Lamb Chop on Broadway was Kevin’s 6th appearance as director/choreographer on Broadway.  Kevin’s name was first associated with television as the choreographer for The Garry Moore Show, The Dean Martin Show and The Bell Telephone Hour.  Since then he has worked on over 500 television series, specials and stage productions for artists such as Barry Manilow, Sandy Duncan, Marilyn McCoo, Suzanne Somers, Melissa Manchester, Tammy Wynette, Robert Guillaume, Grace Jones, George Burns, Bill Cosby, Rich Little, Michael Landon, Herb Alpert, Doris Day, Bea Arthur, Carol Burnett, Julie Andrews, Bob Hope, and Pee Wee Herman.  During his years with Solid Gold, Kevin created the Solid Gold Dancers.  Kevin’s vast credits in television have led to much distinguished recognition from his peers.  He received an Emmy Award for work on The Barry Manilow Television Special and in 1988 received an American Video Award.  He was also given Tony Award consideration for choreographing Hallelujah Baby! and Happy Time.

BRADLEY KAYE (Set Designer)

is very proud to be back at REPRISE! following The Threepenny Opera last fall.  Recent design credits include the critically acclaimed productions of Actors Co-op’s Lettice and Lovage, and Interact Theatre’s The Cherry Orchard.  As an Associate Artist of Interact, productions include both Counsellor-At-Law and Juno and the Paycock (which each received the LADCC Award) and most productions of the past 4 years.  Work elsewhere includes the recent productions of Frankenstein and The All Night Strut! for ICT, plus shows at many theatres including the Celebration, the Laguna Playhouse, the Odyssey, the Tiffany, the West Coast Ensemble.  In addition, he is represented by the Off Broadway hits Forbidden Broadway and Forbidden Hollywood, and by the past three years of the internationally-known Palm Spring Follies.  Acknowledgments include the LADCC Awards, Backstage Garlands, Drama-Logues, along with Ovation and other nominations.  Elsewhere, he has provided designs for numerous benefits supporting AIDS organizations and the Music Center.  Currently, he is with Disney Imagineering creating entertainment for the new Tokyo Disney Sea.

DAVID R. ZYLA (Costume Designer)

REPRISE! credits include Sweeney Todd, starring Kelsey Grammer and Christine Baranski, The Threepenny Opera, starring Patrick Cassidy, and Wonderful Town, starring Lucie Arnaz and Stephanie Zimbalist.  Additional recent credits include the Baltimore, Chicago and New York productions of Clue - The Musical, the New York Encores! production of Fiorello!, the Sacramento Light Opera productions of 1776, Cabaret and Brigadoon, and the Sacramento Theatre Company’s production of Pericles.  Mr. Zyla is currently designing the Shakespeare LA production of As You Like It.  Film credits include Nice Guys, Sleep Alone, starring Sean O’Brien and Morgan Fairchild, Joe Brooks’ Sara’s Life Before It Became a Movie, and the PBS mini-series, They Came For Good.  Prior to his career in theatre and films, Mr. Zyla’s name was on an international fashion label, carried in all major stores and featured in national and international press.  In addition to designing for numerous celebrities, Mr. Zyla designed the wardrobe for First Lady Hilary Rodham Clinton for her trip to the Far East.

TOM RUZIKA (Lighting Designer)

has enjoyed creating lighting for many varied productions and architectural spaces.  For REPRISE!, Tom has designed Finian’s Rainbow, The Pajama Game, The Threepenny Opera, Of Thee I Sing, and Sweeney Todd.  He has designed over 75 productions for South Coast Repertory and shows for the Mark Taper Forum, International City Theatre, and The Palm Springs Follies.  His designs can be seen at theme parks in 6 different countries including Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal’s Islands of Adventure Orlando, Warner Bros. MovieWorld, Paramount’s Star Trek World Tour, and Knott’s Berry Farm.  His architectural lighting can be seen at Santa Monica Place, South Coast Plaza Mall, Orange County Performing Arts Center, the Los Angeles Music Center and many other shopping malls, restaurants, churches, residences and Las Vegas casinos and hotels.  Other professional associations include the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Theatre, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and Sacramento Music Theatre.  Mr. Ruzika is also head of the Graduate Lighting Design Program at U.C. Irvine.

JOHN FEINSTEIN (Sound Designer)

has been working in professional theatre for 20 years.  He has toured extensively with the Aman Folk Ensemble, Jazz Tap Ensemble, Rhapsody in Taps, and the Los Angeles Chamber Ballet.  Currently he is the Sound Designer for the Civic Light Opera of South Bay Cities and Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera.  Not bad for someone with a degree in Political Science.
